Displaced Homemaker Scholarships
The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Displaced Homemaker Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each to those men and women who would not otherwise be able to complete their educational goals due to family responsibilities. Funds in the amount of $750 per semester are disbursed directly to the college pending satisfactory progress. Funds may be used to assist with childcare, transportation and basic living expenses in addition to educational costs. Spring disbursement requires a copy of the fall semester’s grades and a spring semester class schedule. This scholarship does not automatically renew. Students are eligible to apply on a yearly basis.
Displaced Homemaker Scholarships Requirements
Displaced Homemaker Scholarships Deadline: Applications must be received in our Rockville office by 5:00pm Eastern Time on June 13.
Displaced Homemaker Scholarships Eligibility Requirements:
Generally the term “displaced homemaker” refers to a woman or man who are a bit older – 30+ who:
- Has never attended college due to family responsibilities and are now entering college for the first time – their children may be entering elementary school or may be grown and out of the house.
- Had attended college when they were younger but put school on hold to care for their children and never received their degree and are now returning to finish school.
- Has been working in a specific job sector and has lost their job due to downsizing and needs a degree to get another job in a different job sector.
- Has been working in a specific job sector without a degree and needs a degree to move higher and provide better for their family.
- Must complete a separate essay about family responsibilities.
- Must provide a monthly budget
Displaced Homemaker Scholarships Duration: 1 year, renewable.
Financing: Displaced Homemaker Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each. Funds in the amount of $750 per semester are disbursed directly to the college pending satisfactory progress.
